Image from www.londonbuddhistcentre.comAs London goes into its seventh week of lockdown, Centres as the East London Buddhist Centre expand their online courses to support Londoners mental health.
The main base for the Triratna Buddhist Community based on Roman road, Bethnal green opened its doors in 1978. Previously to lockdown, the centre hosted weekly events and ran poetry and yoga classes.
But as every centre, the charity closed and moved to online teaching.
They shared on their website ‘We might be closed for lockdown, but we are here online for you’, and use their website to provide a variety of activities as Buddhism & Meditation: The Essentials, Yoga Intensive and other live classes that can be easily accessed through Zoom.
Some of the most popular projects are the Breathing Space, co-founded by Maitreyabandhu a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order.
The project teaches the basic practices of mindfulness and their objective during lockdown is to help with mental health difficulties as depression, anxiety and addiction.
They have made all courses free of charge and accessible for everyone including children. LBC says they ‘believe in the generosity economy, where we give freely of the Buddha’s vision and ask those that can to help us to do this by donating to the centre.’
