Thyme restaurants in all Premier Inns, owned by Whitbread PLC announced the temporary closure due to the coronavirus outbreak that recently has hit the UK. Forcing the prime minister to declare a national lockdown.
Premier Inn - one of the fast-growing hotel chains in the UK, along with Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, Table Table and Cookhouse + Pub restaurants were closed on Friday night.
Managers at hotels asked their workers to contact those who had future bookings and make them aware of the temporary decision, but clarifying the hotels will remain open.
Workers were asked for a mandatory meeting “regarding the situation happening around the world” last Thursday at Premier Inn Farringdon in Central London, by the hotel manager, Paul Banks.
It was clarified that “All Premier Inn hotels will remain open” until future updates.
Banks clarified that all pregnant women will immediately go to self-isolation to protect themselves from the pandemic, as well as those who are showing symptoms or living with someone who has symptoms.
It was said Whitbread will cover their 75% of contracted hours and will receive an increase in their salary within the next 45 days.
Workers hours will be reduced and those who work during breakfast and dinner will be doing tasks as “deep cleaning, painting and delivering world-class sanitising from all of the team.”
Premier Inns all over the nation have faced thousands of cancellations over the last 10 days due to airports closing, cities going in lockdown and offices asking their employers to work from home. Leaving the company to make quick decisions about their workers and their safety.
Banks said the number of guests staying at the hotel is lower than 10, but it will remain open and the workers will continue to have tasks. He expressed his concerns about the global pandemic saying "I have made it 100% transparent that myself and management team are here for you all as we sail through this storm."
